Thursday Poem

A Doll’s Story

—after a bombing in Beirut
—–
Drum-beating monkey
toppled over, rolled far away,
drum still beating.
—–
Choo-choo train
turned turtle,
spinning wheels kept spinning.
—–
Dancing bear
fell down, dancing,
cap still nodding, changing colour.
—–
Doll, full of life and words,
closed her eyes, never woke again,
never spoke again.
The world looked on with open eyes!
