“When the rich get too rich and the poor
get too poor, there is a way.”
…………….. —Pearle Buck, The Good Earth
.
Quake
when the rich get too rich
the sky falls
when the poor get too poor
there is a way:
see what breaks
over a fault when plate
pushes plate
even stacked bullion falls
it’s a grim scene
when all work meets
at an edge
when what’s raw
surges volcanic through
stone pipes stifled hope
singes the landscape,
plows plantations
under, sinks
mistaken dreams,
exhaults valleys, scours peaks
so they’re buzz-cut
as a military head —when
even air burns
all suck equally
from a bountiful
karmic void
when the rich get too rich
day leaves
when the poor get too poor
wide night comes
.
