“The water in Celestún, particularly near the mangroves and estuary, often appears various shades of green, yellow, brown, due to its mineral content mixed with mangrove sediment with its high tannin, and natural phytoplanktons made possible by the mixing of fresh and sea water. This particular eco-system is home to micro-organisms which reflect green light. “
