This Week’s Photograph

Apple orchards in Vahrn, South Tyrol, with apples ready for harvest. Those are undeployed hail nets (hail can destroy the crop) and the tractor in the background is one of the ones that will tow these apples (once they are picked and put into crates) to a central location from where they are shipped all over the world (someone sent me a photo of an apple being sold in a market in Islamabad with a sticker identifying it as having been grown in South Tyrol). While having 0.125% of the population of Europe, South Tyrol grows about 10% of its apples.
